Cloudburst!

  • St Mary the Virgin 346 Lewisham High Street London, England, SE13 6LE United Kingdom (map)

Lewisham Choral Society presents a lively summer concert reflecting themes of Lewisham’s Borough of Culture year.

Cloudburst, by celebrated choral composer, Eric Whitacre, depicts people’s longing for rain in a parched desert, climaxing with a cloudburst of clapping, finger clicks and percussion - an apt piece to reflect today’s changing climate.

Room for All, a Borough of Culture commissioned work for LCS by composer Barbara Dudek, reflects another of the year’s key themes: Lewisham as a welcoming borough of sanctuary.

Pianist Nico de Villiers plays the sumptuous The Maiden and The Nightingale by Spanish composer Enrique Granados, as well as Farewell to Stromness by English composer Peter Maxwell Davies.

LCS will also be performing Whitacre’s The Seal Lullaby, John Tavener’s The Lamb and The Tyger, two joyful works by Jonathan Dove including Seek Him That Maketh The Seven Stars, and three jazzy Shakespeare settings by Will Todd.

We will also be joined by percussion ensemble Orchestra da Camera, led by Matt Turner.
