On Tuesday March 10th, 300 singers from Lewisham Choral Society and Hackney Singers raised the roof at London’s Royal Festival Hall, performing Mozart’s Requiem to a packed audience. From the solemn opening of the Kyrie, to the thunderous Dies Irae, the poignant Lachrymosa to the exhilarating finale, this was a stunning performance from start to finish. The choirs were delighted to be joined by four outstanding international soloists, accompanied by the excellent Forest Philharmonia, under the authoritative baton of Mark Shanahan, who ensured that this was indeed a highly dramatic performance. Our audience clearly enjoyed it and the concert ended with rapturous applause and a unified roar of ‘bravo’.
“The Dies Irae was electrifying.”
“Amazing performance … Blown away by the passion.”
“Mozart’s Requiem at Royal Festival Hall was haunting as ever last night. And really special to see LCS perform it there.”
