Mozart: Mass in C minor
Schumann: Piano Concerto
Brahms: Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny)
Lewisham Choral Society, Hackney Singers, London Mozart Players and an impressive array of soloists including soprano Elin Manahan Thomas perform Mozart’s majestic C Minor Mass. The programme includes Brahms’ lyrical Schicksalslied and Schumann’s Piano Concerto – a welcome return to the Southbank for the combined choir of over 300 voices, following three near sell-out performances.
The musical breadth of Mozart’s Mass is dazzling: from the solemn Kyrie to the fast and furious Cum Sancto fugue and ravishing solo movements, this is undoubtedly one of Mozart’s greatest choral works. Brahms’ Schicksalslied too is a work of contrasts: a lyrical opening movement gives way to dramatic turbulence before a serene orchestral finale. Schumann’s sparkling Piano Concerto needs no introduction!
Soprano: Elin Manahan Thomas
Soprano: Helen Meyerhoff
Tenor: Peter Davoren
Bass: Philip Tebb
