One week before LCS and The Derbyshire Singers sing Mendelssohn’s Elijah at Fairfield Halls, sixty of our members will be travelling north to join our Derbyshire friends in Matlock for their own performance of Elijah.
On Saturday the 12th of March we are singing at Highfields School, Matlock. Nestled in the Derbyshire Dales, this attractive town is the gateway to the outstandingly beautiful Peak District National Park.
As a further attraction on the 12th, the combined choirs will be joined by four splendid soloists: the highly-regarded Scottish soprano Lorna Anderson, mezzo-soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers, distinguished tenor Andrew Mackenzie-Wicks, and, singing the role of Elijah the prophet, young Irish bass baritone Gavan Ring.
The Derbyshire Singers will be particularly pleased to welcome Catherine, as she was a member of the choir before winning a Foundation Scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London. This was the beginning of an illustrious operatic, concert and recital career. She is also a Vice-President of The Derbyshire Singers, and whose honorary patrons are The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.
We hope that all this will be enough to tempt some of LCS’s faithful supporters to travel north with the choir, and enjoy not only the beautiful music, but also the beautiful countryside, and even the home of The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire – the stunning Chatsworth House.
