LCS members are eagerly awaiting a ‘Come and Sing’ event at St John’s Smith Square on May 10th, when we will sing Will Todd’s jazzy Mass in Blue and hopefully raise lots of money for the amazing children’s charity, The Rainbow Trust. The charity supports over 25% of the 6,000 families in England who have a child aged 0-18 years of age with a life threatening or terminal illness. LCS is delighted to offer them our support and as a bonus, to have a great day ourselves in the process!
The Mass in Blue is a contemporary setting of the Latin mass with a distinctly jazz-blues feel, written for choir, soprano solo and jazz ensemble. It is fast establishing itself as a modern choral classic and has been performed well over 100 times around the world since its 2003 premiere.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to join a mass participation day, with a professional jazz band and the composer, led by some of the country’s leading choral conductors. This ‘Come and Sing’ event will be a chance for singers from around the country to come together under the leadership of choral conductors who will be directing one movement each.
LCS loved this work when we first performed it in 2010. Roll on 10th May!
