Orchestral and Choral Glory at Goldsmiths

On Saturday the 12th of November, LCS is presenting an evening of glorious choral and orchestral music, combining Schubert’s majestic Mass in E Flat with Mozart’s sublime Piano Concerto in C, K. 467. We also open with with Schubert’s joyous Offertorium, Intende Voci.

Franz Schubert’s Mass in E Flat was his sixth setting of the Mass, written shortly before his untimely death and was never performed in his lifetime. It is a powerful work of many contrasts: in turns peaceful, mysterious, dramatic and exhilarating, and of course, as we would expect from Schubert, always richly lyrical.

His Offertorium is a delightful little gem, with a tenor soloist soaring above the choir, while the orchestra provides a sparkling accompaniment, and on this occasion we are joined by the excellent Forest Philharmonic Orchestra.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s glorious Piano Concerto in C is nowadays often dubbed the ‘Elvira Madigan’ following its use in the soundtrack of the film of that name. This beautiful concerto rightly remains one of Mozart’s most-loved works and LCS are looking forward to a fabulous performance of the piece by our Assistant Director of Music Nico de Villiers.

Our soloists for the evening are Helen Meyerhoff (Soprano), Susan Legg (Alto), Mark Chaundy (Tenor), Philip Tebb (Bass) and Nico de Villiers (piano).
